West Milford, New Jersey

West Milford was formally known as New Milford of Passaic County, New Jersey. Story has it that the name change was done my clerk in Washington D.C. while he was approving the townships request for a post office. Upon seeing another New Milford in Bergen County he promptly crossed out New and wrote West on the request form. On about 80 square miles of land, West Milford sits right in the heart of the highlands. Spread out over this large area lies almost 40 lakes and natures reminder of its everyday beauty.

Formally a very residential and rural town, West Milford boomed into a major tourist hot spot with the addition of Warner Brothers wildlife/theme park Jungle Habitat. This theme park brought in much needed commerce over the summer month and weekends but was later moved to Jackson, New Jersey around 1976.

4,500 students are currently educated under the West Milford Township Public Schools. There are 6 elementary schools, 1 middle school, and a high school. West Milford also offers a Center for Adult/Community Education which offers an education for anyone of any age that would like to return to school.

West Milford is also very focused on recreational sports, supporting many teams in a variety of sports. But it’s not just the athletics that attract potential buyers. It’s the scenic state protected forests where there’s so much to do! Hiking, fishing, and boating.

Route 23 is the best link between West Milford and wherever your final destination may be.
