Passaic, New Jersey

Passaic is a city of more than 67,000 residents on a 3.2 square miles area of land. A city bubbling with life and business and families is the best way to describe Passaic in Passaic County, New Jersey. An interesting fact about Passaic is that this city is known to be the birthplace of television. It was the first city to have a television transmission sent to home receivers.

Passaic has several business districts including Monroe Street; where the restaurants and shops are focused on the Latino and Eastern European populations. Main Avenue is another main strip of business that starts in Passaic Park and follows the Passaic River downtown. Broadway runs east and west finishing on main Street in downtown Passaic.

This city is known for its unique and architecturally stunning churches; St. John's Lutheran Church, First Presbyterian of Passaic and St. John's Episcopal Church are the more notable among the rest. "Southwest Passaic (known as Passaic Park) is a residential and institutional center of Orthodox Judaism, with 25-30 minyanim on Shabbos, and 1,300 families, as well as being home to numerous yeshivas, schools and other institutions".

This city is a commuters dream, Passaic is easily accessed by using Routes 3 and 21 by car, as well as the Garden State Parkway and Interstate 80. New Jersey Transit buses transport Passaic residents to Paterson, Wallington, Newark and Rutherford and many other local hot spots. In particular bus 190 provides service to Port Authority Bus Terminal in NYC. the Passaic NJ Transit rail station in Passaic Park provides service to Hoboken Terminals and Secaucus Junction; from where you have unlimited choices in connections to your final destination.

The Passaic City School District is a type I school district. This means Passaic a legally independent  party administered by a nine-member Board of Education elected by the voters of the school district. This school system is made of 2 early childhood centers, 12 elementary schools, 1 middle school, and 1 High School.
