PCBOR President Named Honoree for Shirley Chisholm Award

Wayne, NJ – Passaic County Board of Realtors® President Dana Williams has been selected as a recipient for the 2017 Shirley Chisholm Awards Ceremony for her excellence in Business. Every year, trailblazing women are chosen for their accolades in public service and leadership. Williams began her term as PCBOR President in 2017 and became the first female African-American to do so.

Williams became a real estate licensee in 2005, having cultivated more than a decade long career in the industry. Prior to becoming president of the board, she served as the organization’s 1st Vice President in 2016, President-Elect in 2015, and Vice President in 2014, along with serving two terms as a Director in previous years.

“I’m deeply honored and humbled to be receiving this award in honor of Shirley Chisholm, who broke many barriers. I am also thankful to Sheila Y. Oliver for recognizing me and other notable women. She is a champion for the community and women,” Williams said. “As the first African-American woman to become PCBOR President, I believe in transformative change and creating a path for others, especially women of color. I’ve witnessed so many great women receive this award and I am thankful to be receiving it myself.”

Williams is passionate about the empowerment of women and girls around the world. She works to encourage girls and women to use their voices to break barriers, pursue their goals, never take no for an answer, and to always have the courage to follow their dreams.

Williams credits her determined and hard-working attitude to the women in her life, especially her mother and grandmother.

“My grandmother is the greatest woman I’ve ever known,” she said. “She always told me, ‘No matter how many setbacks you face, you have to keep getting up. It’s nice to be nice.’

Williams has been heavily involved on the state and national level in real estate for many years. She is a co-founder of the Women’s Council of NAREB (National Association of Real Estate Brokers) and former Secretary of NAREB, the premier minority trade group for real estate professionals. She’s also a member of The Women’s Council of Realtors and the Asian American Real Estate Association of America and other notable trade industry organizations.

She is also a NAR Director, a member of the NJ REALTORS® Executive Committee and Board of Directors, and Immediate Past Chairwoman of NJ REALTORS® Political Affairs Committee. She served as a member of the NJ REALTORS® Communications & Public Relations Committee and as Vice Chair and Chair of the NJ REALTORS® Legislative Committee in 2015 and 2016, respectively.
Dana was recently appointed to the NJ REALTORS® Housing Opportunity Fund as a Trustee and the NJ REALTORS® Educational Scholarship Fund Board of Trustees.

In 2017, Dana was appointed to the NJ REALTORS® Presidential Advisory Group (PAG) on Governance. Williams was also appointed to the Housing Finance Reform and Conventional Financing Assumability Presidential Advisory Group (PAG) by National Association of REALTORS® President Bill Brown.

Williams says that she feels extremely thankful to be receiving this prestigious award and hopes that she represents a great example for other girls and women.

The awards ceremony took place on April 22, 2017 at the Valley Regency in Clifton, NJ.
